Letter to Oprah from Victim of the Bernie Madoff Scandal

Dear Oprah,

All I need to say is "Bernie Madoff" and everyone says "oh, my God, no, not you" and feeling like a fool, I have to say "Yes."

I am a victim of this vicious and heinous crime, I am upset, devastated and broke. I am in my late 50s and my husband is 70, we have a daughter and her grandchildren living with us. I see no immediate resolve or help coming from the government or individual agencies in the near future to save my family or any other individual investors that lost everything they had because of this man. It is like a painful death, day by day watching your livelihood dissipate in front of your eyes and it's heartbreaking to watch my family struggling to figure out how we are going to make it.

We are selling property, cars, furniture, and anything we can to make ends meet. It's frightening and I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other people in my same position.

Most of the media attention has been focused on the major companies, banks and charities that lost large investments in this scam. Yes, this is a terrible travesty and I'm sure it will continue to take it's toll and proceed to have a downward spiral effect in this upcoming new year.

Please, Oprah, do a show on some of these individual cases to help open up any avenues for these poor victims, many of them are elderly have been exploited and are truly desperate. A show would help expand awareness on the corruption and chaos brought about by this one man, Bernie Madoff, who thought he was king and had the investors, believing he was too.

Best Regards,
